The appellation is located in the northeast of the French wine region Languedoc. Although it is an enclave within the Costières de Nîmes region of the Rhône, it is assigned to the Languedoc under wine law. It was classified as AOC in 1949 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vines on mighty gravel soils around the commune of Bellegarde in the Gard department. The white wine is made from 100% pure Clairette grapes.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
