Cladosporium

Genus of molds with over 50 species (types), which are also called black mold because of their coloration from brown to black-brown. These are the most common moulds in the outside air, accounting for up to 90% of all airborne moulds in summer. This is why they are usually used in allergy tests. Above all, they can be found in marshlands, forests and gardens and like to grow on rotten plants and leaves in humid environments. In vineyards, mould is responsible for certain types of grape rot. The cellar mould found in damp wine cellars, with the old (still frequently used) name Cladosporium cellare, was also once counted among this genus. According to new findings, however, it belongs to a different genus and is now called Zasmidium cellare.
