The vineyard is located in the commune of Margaux in the area of the same name in the Médoc (Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux). Its immediate neighbour is the famous Château Margaux. The vineyards were among the first three estates to be planted in Margaux by the Marquis Francois d'Alesme back in 1585. In 1810, a Dutch merchant named Becker bought the estate and added his name to it. At the beginning of the 20th century, it came into the possession of Jean-Jules Chaix Théophile-d'Est-Ange (+1923), who also owned Château Lascombes. He wanted to merge the two estates, but died before this could be realised.

After the Second World War (1939-1945), the estate came into the possession of the English family W. H. Chaplin, who sold it together with Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry to the Zuger family in 1955. The two estates were run jointly until 1979. Today, Château Marquis d'Alesme-Becker is managed by Jean-Claude Zuger. In the 1855 Bordeaux classification, the estate was awarded third place (Troisième Grand Cru Classé). The vineyards cover 18 hectares of vines in Soussans and Margaux with Merlot (45%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Petit Verdot (10%). The long-lasting red wine is matured for 12 months in barriques, one third of which are new. The second wine is called "Marquise d'Alesme".
