Château Malmaison

The winery is located in the municipality of Moulis in the area of the same name in the Médoc (Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux). It was last classified as a Cru Bourgeois in the Bordeaux classification according to the old system, which is no longer valid, in 2003. It adjoins Château Clarke and was bought together with the latter in 1973 by Baron Edmond Adolphe de Rothschild (1926-1997). After his wife, the full name on the bottle label is "Château Malmaison Baronne Nadine de Rothschild". Today it is owned by his son Baron Benjamin de Rothschild (1963-2021). The vineyards were completely renovated between 1973 and 1978 and comprise 25 plots totalling 24 hectares of vines. They are planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). The estate is managed by Eric Fabre. The well-known oenologist Michel Rolland was engaged as a consultant. The long-lasting red wine matures for 12 to 15 months in barriques, around a third of which are new.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
