The winery is located in the commune of Saint-Julien in the area of the same name in the Médoc(Bordeaux). It was founded in 1970 by Jean-Eugène Borie (1921-1998) by purchasing 30 hectares of land in the appellation, 18 hectares of which came from Château Lagrange. The name is a combination of terroir and family name. The estate was previously classified as a Cru Bourgeois according to the old system, which is no longer valid. It is now run by Bruno Borie, brother of the owner of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste François-Xavier Borie. The vineyards cover 25 hectares and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The red wine matures in 20 to 30% new barriques. For more information on the other properties of this branch of the Borie family, see Châteaux & Domaines Jean-Eugène Borie.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
