The winery is located in the commune of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes in the Saint-Émilion area (Bordeaux). It was founded in 1679, making it one of the oldest in the area. It is named after an early owner called Dumas de Fombrauge. In 1999, the estate was bought by Bernard Magrez and, with the advice of Michel Rolland, the vineyard was reorganised (the Merlot stock was increased, Cabernet Sauvignon was eliminated). The estate was classified as a Grand Cru Classé for the first time in 2012. The vineyards cover 60 hectares of vines. The long-lasting red wine is made from Merlot (90%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Cot (2%) and aged for 16 to 18 months in barriques, half of which are new. The second wine is called "Le Cadran de Fombrauge". A white wine is also produced under the name "Château Magrez Fombrauge" from the varieties Sémillon (40%), Sauvignon Blanc (30%) and Sauvignon Gris (30%).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
