The vineyard is located in the commune of Margaux or the area of the same name in the Médoc(Bordeaux). It was acquired in 1765 by the merchant Gabriel Ferrière (1721-1792) and became the property of Armand Feuillerat in 1917. The heirs later leased the estate to Alexis Lichine, who vinified the wine at his Château Lascombes estate. In 1988, the estate was acquired by Jacques Merlaut (+2008) and managed by his daughter Bernadette. After the tragic death of her husband during a hiking holiday in the Pyrenees, her daughter Claire Villars-Lurton (wife of Gonzague Lurton) took over the management in 1992. The estate was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé (3rd place) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The vineyards cover eight hectares and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (15%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The long-lasting red wine is matured for 18 months in barriques, 60% of which are new. The second wine is called "Les Remparts de Ferrière".
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
