The winery is located in the commune of Saint-Hippolyte in the Saint-Émilion area (Bordeaux). It was founded in the 17th century by Elie de Bétoulaud and remained in the possession of descendants of this family for over two centuries. The château dates back to 1702 and was bought by the Bich family (owners of the Bic brand) in 1978. The vineyards, wine cellar and winemaking facilities were then extensively renovated. Today it is run by Pauline Bich-Chandon Moët, assisted by her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët (from the famous champagne house Moët et Chandon). The estate was classified as a Grand Cru Classé in 2012. The vineyards cover a total of 42 hectares, of which 32 hectares are planted with Merlot (75%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The long-lasting red wine is matured for 12 months in barriques, 60% of which are new. The second wine is called "Chateau des Grottes".
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
