The vineyard is located in the municipality of Bommes in the Sauternes area (Graves, Bordeaux) in the immediate vicinity of Château d'Yquem. It was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. It was originally part of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey and was separated from it in 1879 (see the history there). It has been owned by the Pauly family since 1934. The vineyards cover 17 hectares and are planted with the Sémillon (90%) and Sauvignon Blanc (10%) varieties. The Clos indicates that the vineyards are enclosed by walls. The extremely long-lasting noble sweet white wine is matured for 18 months in barriques, half of which are new. The family also owns the "Château Haut-Bommes", where the second wine of the same name is produced.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
