Description for the smell and taste of a wine in the context of a wine address. This has characteristic, clearly recognisable properties with regard to the type of vinification, soil type, origin, taste, vintage, climate, producer, grape variety or wine type. As a rule, only individual or only a few of these components are meant (see also under typicality). A "wine with character" also means good quality. Related, but more comprehensive terms or terms that include many more components (such as alcohol content) are body and structure.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
