Municipality in the Côte de Nuits area, which like so many in Burgundy added the name of the best location in the 19th century. The vineyards cover around 150 hectares of chalk and clay soils. Under the Village appellation of the same name, red wines are made from Pinot Noir with small proportions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault. There are the two Grand Cru sites Bonnes-Mares (13.5 ha, with a small part in Morey-Saint-Denis) and Musigny (9.3 hectares). The 24 Premiers Crus cover 60 hectares of vineyards. These are Aux Beaux Bruns, Aux Combottes, Aux Echanges, Derrière la Grange, La Combe d'Orveau, Les Amoureuses (5.4 ha - outstanding), Les Batudes (3.4 ha), Les Borniques, Les Carrières, Les Chabiots, Les Charmes (9,5 ha), Les Chatelots, Les Combottes, Les Cras, Les Feusselottes (4.5 ha), Les Fuées (4.4 ha), Les Groseilles, Les Gruenchers, Les Hauts Doix, Les Lavrottes, Les Noirots, Les Plantes, Les Sentiers (4.9 ha) and Les Véroilles. Well-known producers with Grand Cru and/or Premier Cru sites are Barthod-Noellat, Bertheau, Bichot (Domaine du Clos Frantin), Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Faiveley, Grivot, Mortet, Mugnier, Perrot-Minot and Roumier.
