The "Celler Perelada" winery is located in the municipality of Peralada (province of Girona, Comarca Alt Empordà) in the Spanish region of Catalonia. Wine has been produced here since the 14th century. The Castell de Peralada is a historical ensemble completely surrounded by walls (the municipality as well as the Castell are actually called Peralada, i.e. with "a", but the winery with "e"). In addition to the former castle of the Counts of Peralada, the approximately 77,000 square metre complex houses a former medieval Carmelite monastery with an adjoining church, a historic landscape park from the 19th century and a modern auditorium for music festivals (Peralada Castle Festival). The Carmelite monks built the monastery bodegas at this time and produced wine for the county of Peralada. The image of the two towers has become the symbol of the wines and cavas marketed by the winery under DO Empordà.
