From the 1980s onwards, it became fashionable for celebrities, especially from the show business, to own their own winery. It is in the nature of things that the vast majority have nothing to do with winemaking and leave this to professionals. One of the very first was the US director Francis Ford Coppola (*1939) in 1975, who used his money from the first two Godfather films. One of the most enterprising is the French actor Gerard Depardieu (*1948), who is active worldwide with his wineries in three continents. The only one who actually learned the trade and took over the business from his father is the Italian Albano Carrisi, who became famous as a show star with his first wife Romina Power:
