The white grape variety (breeding no. North Carolina 57-56) is an interspecific new variety between Howard (Scuppernong x Rotundifolia) x North Carolina 11-173 (Topsail x Tarheel). It only contains genes from Vitis rotundifolia because both parent varieties belong to this species. The cross was made in 1951 in the USA by W. B. Nesbitt at North Carolina University. There is a morphological similarity with the new variety Noble.
The early to medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is resistant to winter frost, but less susceptible to Pierce's disease than other Muscadinia varieties. It produces bronze-coloured, sweet white wines, but is also used as table grape and for the production of grape juice.
