The red grape variety comes from the Ukraine
. Synonyms are Adzhi Ibram Kara, Agii Ibram, Capitan Kara, Chaban Khalil Kara, Capitan Yani Kara and Ridzhaga. The medium maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to powdery mildew
. It yields full-bodied red wines with soft tannins. The variety is cultivated in the Sudak region in the Solnechnaya Dolina (Sun Valley) area in Crimea
. There it is generally used in sweet dessert wines when blended with other Ukrainian local varieties such as Ekim Kara
. Among other things, it is an ingredient in the well-known brand name wine Tschorny Doktor
. In 2010, however, the official statistics did not show any stocks.
