The red grape variety is an open-pollinated seedling of Concord. It contains genes of Vitis labrusca and possibly Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was selected and propagated in the USA in 1894 by the private breeder W. H. Lightfoot. The variety is mainly used as a table grape.
