Cape Mentelle

The winery with its headquarters in the city of Margaret River in the homonymous wine growing area (GI) of the state of Western Australia (Zone South West Australia) was founded in 1970 by the well-known Australian entrepreneur David Hohnen, the winery was put into operation in 1977. Besides viticulture, fruit growing is also practised. Since 2003, the winery and its sister estate Cloudy Bay in New Zealand have been owned by the luxury goods group LVMH. The vineyards are located close to the city and comprise over 200 hectares of vines. They are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Zinfandel, and with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Besides the varietal wines, the cuvées Georgiana and Marmaduke are produced. The flagship of the house is a classic Bordeaux blend (mainly CS, Merlot, CF, Petit Verdot), which is aged for 15 months in American and French barriques.
