The winery is located in the municipality of Bolgheri in the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1998 by the German entrepreneurial Knauf family. The director is Tommaso Alessandri, the oenologists are the Frenchman Stéphane Derenoncourt and Francesco Gagliardi, and the cellar master is Marco Giuntoli. The total estate comprises 22 hectares of land, most of which is used for viticulture as well as olive cultivation with 80 olive trees. The vineyards make up the largest part with 18.5 hectares of vines in about 15 locations with 40 plots.

They are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot, as well as the white wine variety Vermentino. These are planted very densely at low altitude with 9,500 vines per hectare (1.30 m x 0.85 m) using the "Médocain method" (common in the Médoc ). Vine competition is intended to produce a quality-enhancing low yield. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are harvested by careful, selective hand-picking, which are subjected to a second selection on the sorting table and a third selection by means of a destemming machine.
