The winery "Bodegas Campillo" is located outside Laguardia in the Spanish Rioja sub-area
Rioja Alavesa. It was founded in 1861 and has been part of the
Faustino group since 1990. In the past, Campillo was a second brand of Faustino, so to speak. Only for the Campillo wines new barriques were used to "use" them and - as it was thought - to take away their sharpness. However, this had the (undesired) effect that the second wine (Campillo) was often better than the first wine (Faustino). Now Campillo is considered and marketed as an independent brand. The vineyards cover 50 hectares, mainly planted with Tempranillo, as well as Graciano, Viura, Malvasía and Cabernet Sauvignon. The product range includes Reserva Especial (60% Tempranillo, 40% others), Gran Reserva (100% Tempranillo), Reserva (75% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 15% others), Crianza (100% Tempranillo), Rosado (100% Tempranillo) and Blanco (Viura, Malvasía). About 20% of the production is exported.
