DOC area for white wines, red wines and rosé wines in the Italian region of Campania. In the Phlegraean Fields (Campi Flegrei = burning fields) about 20 kilometres west of Vesuvius, numerous volcanoes were active in the last 40,000 years, which also shaped the soil conditions accordingly. There are also many thermal springs here. The zone covers 100 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Bacoli, Marano, Monte di Procida, Naples, Pozzuoli and Quarto in the province of Naples. The Bianco is blended from Falanghina (50-70%) and other authorised varieties (max. 50%). The Rosso (also called Novello) is produced from Piedirosso (50%), Aglianico (30%) and other authorised varieties (max. 20%). The white wine Falanghina (also as Spumante and Passito), the red wines Piedirosso/Per'e Palummo (also as Riserva) and Piedirosso Passito, as well as the Piedirosso Rosato must contain at least 90% of the respective variety.
