The red grape variety (breeding number Walker 07355-075) is a complex, interspecific new breeding between varieties of the species Vitis vinifera (94%), Vitis rupestris (3%) and Vitis arizonica (3%). The Vitis vinifera varieties were Petite Sirah = Durif (50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%). The crossing was done in the 1990s by Dr. Andrew Walker, professor at the University of California in Davis. The early-ripening vine is resistant to the vine disease Pierce Disease, which is becoming more common due to climate change. It produces dark, tannin-rich red wines with aromas of red fruits, raspberries and cherries. In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
