The red grape variety (also California G 22-2) is a new breed between Zinfandel(Tribidrag) x Mondeuse Noire. The crossing was done in 1937 in the USA at the Agricultural Experiment Station of the University of California by Dr. Harold P. Olmo (1909-2006). For some time the sire variety was erroneously named or assumed to be Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, because Mondeuse Noire was long thought to be this variety. In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
