The white grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Alba de Calabria, Calabre, Calabre Blanc, Calabrese, Calabrese Bianca, Calabreser, Calabres grape, Calabrisi Bianca, Raisin de Calabre, Calabreser, Moschato di Calabria, Muscat de Calabre, Uva di Calabria, White Calabreser/Calabreser. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, this is a cross between Bicane x Muscat Blanc. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). There is no connection to the red varieties Nero d'Avola or Calabrese di Montenuovo (both with synonym Calabrese). The variety is suitable as a wine press and table grape. It was a crossing partner of the new breeding Reichensteiner. No stock was recorded in 2010 (Kym Anderson).
