This red grape variety is a new cross between Mourvèdre (Monastrell) x Cabernet Sauvignon. The cross was made in 1970 in France by the breeder Alain Bouquet on behalf of INRA. The late-maturing vine is resistant to various diseases and pests, but sensitive to drought. It yields tannin-rich, colourful red wines similar to Cabernet Sauvignon, which sometimes lack acidity. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
