Butt plug

Designation (dialectal name for a stick in which the vineyard workers used to cut the number of transported butts (grape containers) in the form of a notch during the grape harvest (notched wood). These sticks also served as walking sticks. Another form of bookkeeping were chalk lines on the grape container. See also under customs in viticulture.
