The BurkhardtSchür sparkling wine house in the municipality of Bürgstadt am Main (Mainviereck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia was founded in 2002 by Laura Burkhardt and Sebastian Schür. The grapes come from friendly winegrowers and from Sebastian's brother Marcus Schür. Only the varieties Chardonnay from Oberrotweil on the Kaiserstuhl and from Reicholzheim in the Tauber valley, Schwarzriesling (Pinot Meunier) from steep slopes in the Tauber valley and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) mainly from Mainfranken are processed. The first sparkling wine or vintage was produced in 2012 and only marketed in 2018. The product range now includes five different sparkling wines. The base wines are matured in double-piece and barrique barrels. The sparkling wines are matured for years on the fine lees in natural cellars using traditional, classic bottle fermentation for the top products. The flagship of the house is the "Blanc de Meuniers Brut Nature", which is made from pure Pinot Meunier grapes. It is aged for over a year in used barriques and double barrels, where it undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation and then matures on its own lees for 82 months. It receives no dosage and is bottled without sulphurisation. The winery is a founding member of the Association of Traditional Sparkling Wine Makers.
