Brente

Old hollow measure or a so-called load-bearing mass for wine, formerly used in Eastern Switzerland. The unit was also known as "Brenta" in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto. The regionally very different volume corresponded approximately to a bucket. In Switzerland it was mostly between 40 and 50 litres, in Italy up to 90 litres. It. remained after the introduction of the litre in 1877 as a carrying vessel without dimensional function. See also under units of measurement and wine vessels.
