One of the Alsace (Haut-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. Viniculture dates back to Roman times. The special quality of the wines was already praised in the Middle Ages. Originally only three hectares in size, the vineyard was expanded in 1924 to include Steinglitz, Kirchthal, Jebsal, Schneckenberg and Weingarten. The vineyards cover 58 hectares of vines on shell limestone and granite soil in the municipality of Turckheim. They are planted with the varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. Among the most famous producers are Justin Boxler, Albert Boxler, Domaines Dopff au Moulin, Preis-Zimmer, CV Turckheim and Domaine Zind Humbrecht.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
