One of the Alsace (Haut-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. Viniculture dates back to the Roman period. The wines were already sung about in the Middle Ages. Originally only three hectares in size, the vineyard was expanded in 1924 to include Steinglitz, Kirchthal, Jebsal, Schneckenberg and Weingarten. The vineyards cover 58 hectares of vines on shell limestone and granite soil in the municipality of Turckheim. They are planted with the varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. Well-known producers are Justin Boxler, Domaines Dopff au Moulin, Preis-Zimmer, CV Turckheim and Domaine Zind Humbrecht.
