The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Barciuola, Bracciola, Braciola, Bracciuola, Bracciula, Brassola and Brazolata. The parentage (parentage) is unknown. It was first mentioned in 1825 under the name Braciola as a variety found in Liguria. The late-ripening, high-yielding vine produces red wines with a strong acidity. Today, it is cultivated in the province of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany, as well as in the cross-regional DOC area Colli di Luni in Liguria/Tuscany, and is mainly used for blends. In 2016, only 4 hectares of vineyards were reported, with a continuing strong downward trend (Kym Anderson statistics).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
