The appellation named after the town of the same name (also Bourg or Bourgeais) is located on the right bank of the Gironde estuary in the French wine-growing region of Bordeaux. Bordeaux wines were exported from here to other countries very early on, but the area has always been referred to rather disparagingly as the "little brother" of the Médoc opposite to the west.
