Bottle smell

General term for a wine defect that manifests itself with a more or less unpleasant odour after opening a bottle. The cause can be cork taint or bacterial contamination. In the best case, the smell disappears within minutes. If it is less pronounced, it can be eliminated by decanting the wine bottle in question. See also at bottle sickness.
