Bottle fermented

A term commonly used in the USA, and at first glance confusing, for a sparkling wine that was probably not produced by the classic method of bottle fermentation, but rather by transvasication (fermentation in the bottle, then decanting into a tank where the lees are removed). See also other names or production methods under Sparkling Wine.
