A large part of the wines in the French region of Bordeaux are produced under the comprehensive appellation designation "Bordeaux" (alcohol content of at least 10% vol. for red wine, 10.5% vol. for white wine) or "Bordeaux-Supérieur" (higher alcohol content with at least 10.5% vol. for red wine and 11.5% vol. for white wine). This applies to all wines that come from the official Bordeaux region but do not have a defined place name. They must comply with all AC rules regarding grape varieties, yield, vinification etc. according to the region of origin and are also controlled.
