The white grape variety originates from Italy. It should not be confused with one of the many varieties with the Bonarda part of the name. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Triumphtraube x Schiava Grossa. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular genetics). No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
