The winery is located in the town of Utiel 75 km west of Valencia in the DO area Utiel-Requena
in the Spanish region of Valencia in the Levant
. It was founded in 1998 by the German vintner Heiner Sauer
from the Palatinate
. Klaus Lauerbach is responsible as administrator, Albert Schamaun is the consulting oenologist. In 2005 a new building with a modern cellar and presentation room was completed. The vineyards cover 16 hectares at 780 and 950 meters above sea level. They are planted with red wine varieties only, namely Bobal, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Worth mentioning is a vineyard with over one hundred year old Bobal
vines and another one with over 50 year old Tempranillo vines
The winery has been a member of the Spanish organic farming association CAE-V (Comité Agricultura Ecològica - Valencia) since its founding year, and since 2009 the vineyards have also been cultivated according to biodynamic
principles. Only fully ripe, healthy grapes are processed through selective manual harvesting. In the cellar we work with as little technical effort as possible. The flagship is "L'Angelet d'Or" made from 100-year-old Bobal and Cabernet Sauvignon, which matures for 18 months in French barriques. It is produced only in exceptional years (2000, 2004, 2011). Another premium wine is "L' Angelet" from Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. About 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
