The red grape variety comes from Germany. However, it should not be confused with the Pinot Meunier (with synonyms Blue Riesling, Black Riesling) or Red Riesling. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Traminer x unknown variety (so a designation Blauer Traminer would actually be more appropriate). However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
