Blauduftiger Trollinger

The red grape variety originates from Germany. Synonyms are Blauwälsche, Cerna Belina, Cernina, Elben Schwarz, Elbling Schwarzblau, Schwarzelbling and Wälscher Frühblau. The parentage is unknown. Despite the partly identical or similar synonyms, it must not be confused with the independent varieties Blauer Elbling (Riesling x Schiava Grossa) or Schwarzer Elbling (parentage unknown). The Blauduftiger Trollinger is probably the variety described by the ampelographer Hermann Goethe (1837-1911) in his Handbuch der Ampelographie (Handbook of Ampelography) published in 1876: "The black Elbling has nothing of the character of an Elbling, but is apparently a variety of the Blauer Trollinger", which is why it is listed as Früher Blauduftiger Trollinger (in von Babo and Trummer)". According to the analysis of the biologist Dr. José Vouillamoz, there are morphological and genetic differences between Blauduftiger Trollinger and the white variety Elbling. Like Hermann Goethe, he also suspects a genetic relationship to Trollinger (Schiava Grossa). In 2016, no stocks were reported under the name Blauduftiger Trollinger (Kym Anderson).
