The vineyard owner Valentin Blattner from Soyhières in the canton of Jura (Switzerland) has been quite extensively active as a private breeder since the 1980s. Among other things, he also created some varieties for which he used his name and a serial number. Great importance was attached to resistance to frost and fungal diseases, which is why they are mostly PIWI varieties. Besides European Vitis vinifera, varieties of the species Vitis amurensis are probably also involved. These are therefore interspecific new varieties, i.e. hybrids. However, the parentage is not always explicitly stated; in the red wine varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir were often involved. In 2016, populations were identified for several leaf varieties. In the British Columbia region of Canada, these were various (unnamed) 8 hectares for red and 7 hectares for white varieties.
