The red grape variety may originate from South America. Synonyms are Criolla Mediana 2, Dolcino, Laurenzana, Rosa del Peru, Rose of Peru, San Francisco, Santa Chiara, Uva Criolla San Francisco and Uva San Francisco. It should not be confused with the Australian variety Black Prince (Merbein), the Ukrainian table grape variety Black Prence or the French variety Cinsaut (with synonym Black Prince). There may be a link with the Argentine variety Moscatel Rosada (with synonym Rose of Peru). The parenthood Mission(Listán Prieto) x Muscat d'Alexandrie, clarified by DNA analysis in 2013, could also indicate this (see also Criolla). The variety is suitable as a wine press and table grape. It was partner of the new varieties Black Defiance and Black Eagle. No stock was reported in 2010 (Kym Anderson).
