The Champagne house is headquartered in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in the Champagne region of France. The foundation stone was laid in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart (1794-1858) and Elisabeth Salmon (1797-1860), when they decided to found the house together with Louis Salmon (brother-in-law of the owner). The company motto formulated at the time, "focus on quality and strive for excellence", still applies today. Today, Mathieu Roland-Billecart (*1981) is the seventh generation of the family to run the business.

The company's own vineyards cover 100 hectares of vines. The estate also cultivates around 100 additional hectares in more than 40 Champagne crus and supplements this by purchasing grapes from around 100 hectares from long-standing partner winegrowers. The majority comes from a radius of 20 kilometres around Épernay from the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne areas. The classic Champagne varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier are cultivated and processed.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
