The winery is located in the municipality of Purbach in the DAC area of Leithaberg in Burgenland (Austria). It has been owned by the business lawyer Dr. Hans Bichler (+2020) since 1986. The vineyards cover 3.6 hectares of vines on the south-eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains. They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, and 30% with the red wine varieties Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Blaufränkisch. Quality criteria are exact foliage care, yield restriction, physiologically ripe grapes and gentle processing. The wines are vinified by the friendly winery Leberl Alexander (municipality of Großhöflein). The red wines undergo spontaneous fermentation and mature for 15 months in barriques and then for another six months in the bottle. The white wines are usually fermented in barriques and bottled after a biological acid reduction and a maturation period of 18 months on average, where they also mature for six months. Only in the case of Pinot Gris is there temperature-controlled fermentation followed by ageing in stainless steel tanks. Around 10,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. They are marketed under the label "Bichler Leberl".
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
