The white grape variety (also Bianchetto di Saluzzo) originates from Italy. According to DNA analyses, the variety Bubbierasco has emerged from a presumably natural crossing with Nebbiolo. It used to be cultivated in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, but is no longer important. In 2016, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson).
