The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Carver x Concord. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera (?). The hybrid was crossed in 1881 in the USA by the private breeder L. Suelter. It was a crossing partner for the new varieties Bluebell and Edelweiss. The variety, which is extremely frost-hardy down to minus 50 °Celsius, is cultivated in the US state of New York, as well as in Kazakhstan and Canada, and is used for the production of table gra pes, grape juice and grape jelly. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
