The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Balmesta Bianca, Belmestia, Bermestia Bianca del Piemonte, Bramestone Bianco, Bromesto, Brumesta, Laxissima, Pomestra Bianca, Poumestra Bianca di Favara and Siriiskii Belyi. It is an all-female grape variety. The assumption made by Pierre Galet (1921-2019) that it was a mutation of the red variety Prunesta has been refuted by DNA analyses. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2007 and 2012, it is a parent of the varieties Dorona di Venezia and Luglienga Bianca. Bermestia Bianca is cultivated in Emilia-Romagna and used there as table grape and wine grape. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
