Bergland Österreich

Next to Steirerland (Styria) and Weinland (Burgenland, Lower Austria, Vienna) the third Austrian wine growing region. This includes the vineyards of the Carinthian, Upper Austrian, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg wine-growing regions. The name indicates the partly extensive mountainous character of the areas concerned in the south and west of Austria. Until the late Middle Ages, there were larger areas of vineyards here, especially in Upper Austria. Due to climatic changes in connection with the Little Ice Age, there was a decline and therefore a boom in the production of beer. The vineyards cover a total of 237 hectares of vineyard area.
