Berget Adrien

The French ampelographer Adrien Berget (1870-19...) was intensively engaged in research into the names of French grape varieties and in 1898 wrote the book "Contribution à l'Etude des Noms de Cépages" with historical research on the Pinot de Bourgogne(Chardonnay). Other works by him were "Les Vins de France" (The Wines of France) and "La Viticulture Nouvelle, La Reconstitution des Vignobles, Plantation et Culture des Vignes franco-amaricaines" (The New Viticulture, Restoration of the Vineyards, Plantation and Culture of the French-American Vines). The latter deals with the so-called French hybrids, which were bred in connection with the fight against phylloxera and mildew. Studies on the origin of the Chasselas appeared in the early 1930s. Berget put forward the hypothesis that the vine originated in Egypt, as he thought he had recognized the variety there in 1932.
