The winery is located in the municipality of Mettenheim ( Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It was founded in the 19th century by Phillip Menger, the great-grandfather of the current owner. After training as a winemaker, Gernot Becker took over the business and bought the former neighbouring Wissmann winery with its building and customer base. He is assisted by his son Amadeus Becker, who completed his apprenticeship years at some renowned Rhine-Hessian wineries. The vineyards cover over five hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Goldberg, Michelsberg and Schlossberg (Mettenheim), as well as Geyersberg (Bechtheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Bl anc, Scheurebe and Bacchus, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Blauer Portugieser and Cabernet Dorsa. The white wines are fermented in a cool place. The red wines mature for one year in wooden and barrique barrels after biological acid degradation. Up to 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Half is marketed in Belgium and the Netherlands, the other half in Germany.
