The winery is located in the municipality of Großriedenthal in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wagram. As early as 1794, viticulture was mentioned in a document by the traditional family. Very early on, they switched to the high-culture form of cultivation and bottled the wine. The farm is run by Josef Bauer. The vineyards cover 18 hectares in the Bassgeigenberg, Goldberg, Hinternberg, Juche (Spielberg) and Luy vineyards. About two thirds of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (with about 50% of the area the leading variety), Riesling, Chardonnay, Roter Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Silvaner, and one third with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture. Only physiologically ripe, healthy grapes are processed through selective harvesting. The white wines are matured in steel tanks, the red wines in barriques. Premium wines are wines from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling with a vineyard designation. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also produced; a speciality is made from Pinot Noir. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (fruit) are also produced. The winery is a member of the Wagram Wine Estates.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
