The winery is located in the municipality of Monzel (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The owners Mona Bastgen and Armin Vogel are oenologists who graduated from Geisenheim and began building their own winery in 1993. Mona Bastgen brought in around two hectares of vineyards from her parents' farm. The vineyards cover just under five hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Juffer Sonnenuhr(Brauneberg), Paulinshofberg (Kesten) and Weisenstein (Bernkastel-Kues). They are 70% planted with Riesling, as well as the varieties Pinot Blanc, Regent, Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir. In contrast to the usual thinning out, the yield is limited by cutting the grapes in half, which at the same time produces the desired loose-grained grape material. The Rieslings are largely matured in stainless steel, but also in traditional wooden barrels. Traditionally, the alcohol content of these wines is rather moderate. As site wines, only selection wines from highly ripe grapes are marketed under the names Juffer Sonnenuhr, Paulinshofberg and Weisenstein. The estate Riesling "Blauschiefer" is a site cuvée.
