Producer description of "Weingut Freiherr von Heddesdorff"

The winery is located in the municipality of Winningen (Burg Cochem area) in the German wine-growing region of . The main house of the Heddesdorff estate, built by the von Limbach family around 950 years ago, is one of the oldest buildings in Winningen. The estate has been in the family since 1424 and was run as a mixed agricultural business over the centuries. It was not until the father of the current owner, Andreas von Canal, that the estate was completely converted to viticulture. A guest house with three holiday flats is attached. The vineyards cover 5.4 hectares of vineyards, mostly on the very steep Domgarten, and sites. They are planted exclusively with Riesling. After fermentation of the must with pure yeasts, the wines remain in stainless steel tanks. The reductive vinification is intended to preserve the primary fruit aromas. In suitable years, noble sweet Prädikat wines such as Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, wine vinegars and noble brandies (yeast, marc) are also produced.
